About these games
After 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 White wins a pawn. Black answers with the gambit 5...Na5 and 6...c6, giving up the pawn for quick development, and 9...e4 gains space and drives the knight to e5. White keeps the extra pawn and a sound structure but has passively placed pieces. Black has an advanced e4-pawn and open lines but a knight stranded on a5.
Chandler–Hebden went 10...Bc5 11.c3 Bd6 12.f4. White held the pawn while Black castled, broke with ...c5 and liquidated e4 with 14...exd3 (−0.19 at 15.Qxd3). Black's pieces then came forward with 16...Ne4, 19...Qh4 and 21...Nxg3. White still stood better at 20.g3 (+1.70). The turning point was 29.Rf1, which moved the score from +1.26 to −2.89 and allowed 29...Rg6+. After 30.Kh1 (−3.18), 31.Bxa7 grabbed a pawn but dropped the score to −5.18. Black won after 32...Rg3 (−5.73).
Kollars–Svane followed the modern 10...Bd6 11.d4 exd3 12.Nxd3 O-O 13.b3. Game 1 was decided by Black's kingside attack. Here White traded Black's active pieces instead, with 18.Nxe4, 20.Qxf3 (+0.92) and 24.Bxe5, after developing with Bb2 and castling. After 27.Rxa7 Nxc2 28.bxc4 the score stood at +1.63 by 30.Rxe1. 32...Qc1 raised it from +0.61 to +3.05. 35.a5 cut it from +3.77 to +1.69, but from 36...Qd5 White stayed more than two pawns ahead. 40...f5 lifted the score from +2.99 to +7.74, and White won after 41.Qb3+.
