B92 Sicilian Defence: Najdorf

ECO code B92 covers the Najdorf Sicilian with 6.Be2, reached after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Be2. White chooses quiet development and castling over the sharper attacking systems of the Najdorf. Black's most common reply is 6...e5, which gains space and drives the knight away; after 7.Nb3 Be7 both sides usually castle, or White plays 8.Be3 first. The pawn on e5 leaves a hole on d5, so play revolves around that square: White aims pieces such as a knight on c3 or a bishop at it, while Black looks for an eventual ...d5 break or queenside counterplay.
