B33 Sicilian Defence: Sveshnikov

ECO code B33 covers the Sicilian Defence lines with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6, here the Sveshnikov with 5.Nc3 e5. Black accepts a backward d-pawn and a hole on d5 in return for gaining time against the knight with 6.Ndb5 d6. After 7.Bg5 a6 8.Na3 b5, White fights for d5 either with 9.Bxf6 gxf6 10.Nd5, where Black answers 10...f5 or 10...Bg7 and gets the bishop pair and active pieces, or with 9.Nd5 Be7 10.Bxf6 Bxf6, followed by the positional 11.c3 or the sharper 11.c4. The quieter 7.Nd5 is also covered.
